For Those New to abcro

by

The whole “plot” behind abcro is a place for me to speak of age and an obvious lack of glory in growing old. Old isn’t a bad thing, depending on how life treats or mistreats a person, but it is challenging as one’s youthful vigor wanes while one’s mind stays pretty much the same.

I will be seventy-eight this month and there is not good reason I should have made it past sixty-five as I was a heavy drinker for a couple of decades. A “runs in the family” kind of thing. I managed to quit by making myself so sick that I damn near died. It is a story as old as mankind. Within the last month or so I also managed to stop smoking. You see “habits are us” is me.

The reason I sought to straighten myself out was that the habits came on suddenly, unexpectedly. It was a few decades after Vietnam that drinking started filling a need for escape. Escape from dreams that would not stop. The smoking came a few years later. Why? I have no good idea why. Seemed like a good habit to start at the time, maybe?

So, end of last mot=nt and after I stopped drinking, I fell and broke my hip which put me in the hospital for a full month. It was not a joyous month. It was a month of pain killers that had me out in the ether oin the throes of wild abandonment and virtual helplessness. I could not walk to do anything and that really sucks.

OK, now you have part of the reason I started this. The rest is to express my thoughts on life from the viewpoint of a combat veteran. The reason is seeing and hearing so many young people who think the world owes them a living. The world provides all it can for you but it owes you nothing. Try not taking a breath for thirty minutes and then thank the world for giving you air to breathe.

That’s it for now. More as I have time and, seeing as I have five websites, time is important to me. Not to mention that I haven’t a lot of time left at my age.
